Finger Lakes Laser is a small, family-owned and operated business proudly based in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York. We specialize in custom laser engraving, precision part marking, and 3D printing for both personal and commercial applications.
Using a state-of-the-art 100W CO2 laser, a 60W MOPA fiber laser, and a 3D printer capable of producing parts from some of the most demanding materials, we offer a wide range of services with a strong focus on quality, detail, and reliability. From custom wood cutting and engraving to personalized drink tumblers, coasters, cutting boards, signs, gifts, and promotional items, we help bring ideas to life with precision and craftsmanship.
We also specialize in industrial part marking for machined components across a variety of alloys. Our marking capabilities meet strict aerospace requirements, and our work can be found on parts used in applications ranging from spacecraft to submarines.
At Finger Lakes Laser, our mission is simple: provide high-quality, personalized products and dependable service that exceed expectations. Whether you need one custom gift, a branded product line, or precision marking for functional parts, we take pride in delivering work that is both professional and lasting.
About the Owner
Owner Matt Jones has always had a natural passion for building, fixing, and figuring out how things work. Growing up, he could usually be found tinkering with electronics, taking things apart, and putting them back together. That hands-on curiosity eventually became the foundation for Finger Lakes Laser.
Before starting the business, Matt spent about 15 years working as a dental technician in local laboratories, where he developed a sharp eye for detail, precision, and craftsmanship. In 2019, he purchased his first laser engraver and quickly discovered that this was more than just a hobby. Demand grew fast through word of mouth, leading to recognition as Business of the Week in the local paper and ultimately to the official launch of Finger Lakes Laser from a spare room in the family home.
Over the years, continued community support and customer referrals have helped the business grow steadily, earning multiple local awards and additional media recognition, including coverage following the devastating shop fire in December 2023. After rebuilding, Finger Lakes Laser came back stronger than ever and continues to grow.
Today, Finger Lakes Laser remains primarily a one-man operation, with occasional help from Matt’s wife and son. That small-business approach allows every job to receive personal attention, care, and a commitment to quality from start to finish.
We are incredibly grateful for the support of our customers and community, and we look forward to serving the Finger Lakes and beyond for many years to come.
Round Wooden Serving Board with Brass Lake Inserts
One of our personal favorite projects, this round wooden serving board brings together every major machine in the Finger Lakes Laser shop. The wood is deeply engraved with our CO2 laser, the brass Finger Lakes inserts are cut and marked with our 60 watt fiber laser, and the hidden magnetic utensil tray inside was made with our 3D printer.
Engraved Fly Box Birthday Gift
A customer-supplied fly box engraved to create a meaningful birthday gift for someone special. The customer sent the box to Finger Lakes Laser so we could add custom engraving and turn an already useful item into a more personal keepsake.
This project is a great example of how laser engraving can add a thoughtful, lasting detail to customer-provided items for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, retirement gifts, and other special occasions.
Custom Engraved Wedding Cutting Board
This custom engraved cutting board was created for a wedding gift with specific customer-requested details, including a bird and floral design, along with the couple’s names and wedding date. It is a great example of how Finger Lakes Laser can take a customer’s vision and turn it into a finished piece that feels personal, meaningful, and made just for the occasion.
Projects like this show how custom engraving can be tailored to match exactly what the customer wants, whether that means incorporating specific artwork, themes, names, dates, or special details that make the gift unique.
